 Wow how COOL is that smilie?? Anyway, I wondered if anyone here has read Pathways by Jeri Taylor (Voyager producer), and could verify that a couple discrepancies I found in the book are for real, that I'm not just imagining them. I only found two, but they seemed really strange considering this was a producer writing the book, not just a fan... In the chapter on B'Elanna Torres' early life, her mother's name is Prabsa. But later in the series, and in the post series books, the mother's name is Miral. ?? And in Harry Kim's chapter, Libby (his girlfriend on Earth) has the last name Lattimore, when also post series she's Libby Webber. I just found it odd that someone so knowledgeable as Taylor is supposed to be would publish a book with these names and then later on the show and books switch things around.  This may be a completely pointless thread, but I have thought about those two little things since the names changed and I noticed.

I had noticed the thing about B'Elanna's mom, but never the thing about Libby. The only explanation I could offer would be that when Taylor left the show, B&B decided that they would not pay attention to the book, and they'd just do their own thing. My rule of thumb: When in doubt, blame Brannon Braga! LOL

Yes, but we will be reeling from his damage for years to come...... That aside, I loved Pathways!!! I loved it almost as much as I loved Mosaic. Though Mosaic won out since it WAS about Janeway.  I think that, had Jeri Taylor, stayed with the show, it would have been even better than it was. |

OMG!!! I HATE that!!! It becomes the only thing I can focus on. There was a guy in my Lit class this semester who did that, and by the end of the semester, I was ready to kill him.....

My rule of thumb: When in doubt, blame Brannon Braga! LOL That's the truth, as i have heard and read from different sources. As for "Pathways", the book is OK. I like the background stories about Our Favorites. The best ones are about Neelix, Chakotay, Tom and Kes. Harry's story is the least interesting and Tuvok's a bit slow in places. I have spotted some things which seems wrong. The whole scenario when Kes is hold prison among the Kazon. Now, why should she save Jabin's life? And if she did, why would Jabin continue to mistreat her as he obviously did? As for Tom's story, why dont we get a decent explanation why Tom dislike his father so much? It's just like the old man is goodness himself and Tom dislikes him just because it's a part of the overall plot. I really dislike Taylor's way of smoothing over every conflict between people, just as if "If we are a family or bunch of people who stick together and sing a little song, everything will be fine". As for the main story, it's weak and predictable. Most written to have a background to the characters sudden urge to tell their stories of their lives for each other. The two gay characters in the main story and the one in Harry's story seems to be there more as a political statement from Taylor than for some importance to the story. It's also a bit weird that Vorik got so much attention in the book. Was it because the actor who played Vorik is Taylor's stepson? As for Taylor herself, I find her a good author and I enjoyed reading both "Mosaic" and Pathways". But I strongly dislike Taylor because she was one of the people responsible for kicking out Kes from the show and I'm glad that she left. I wish that Berman and Braga would have done the same. I think, Lynx, that the whole Tom hating his dad thing would have been b/c his father was such a workaholic? I assume that being a high ranking Starfleet officer would be the eqivalent to a chief of staff at a hospital or something, always working? And I agree w/everything else you said. I also wish they had let Kes stay. I think it could have worked w/both her and Seven, if the writers had worked harder. rewatching the early eps on Spike has me missing her  |

i miss kes and prefer her to seven but thats only coz of wot they did in endgame wit seven and chakotay yuk!!
anyway i loved pathways, it was a really good insight into all the characters and i naturally liked the ending
