I also agree. None of it was necessary. Huh??? I get that Spock and Uhura was a bit weird, but cute at the same time... but come on now... love scene? A few kisses on the transporter does not a love scene make. As for the language... I missed that. I'll watch it one more time to see if I just missed it.... I remember a@s being said... huh... I'll put it in and check that out.

LMAO!!!!! Ahahahahahahahahahaha! That two second scene with them in their underwear?! Ahahahahahahahahahahahaha! Again...just kissing... does not a love scene make. Is this your first pg 13 movie my dear? You should try some rated R! Those love scenes will blow your socks off if you liked Kirk and Orion Girl. Okay... I watched it again, and come to find out there was a few more swear words than I thought... but almost all done by McCoy which is so McCoy anyway that I did not notice. Here are ALL swear words.... "Hey are you outta your mind?! That car is an antique! You think you can get away with this just because your mother is off planet? You get your ass back home now! You live in my house buddie! You live in my house and that is my car! You get one scratch on that car, and I'm gonna whip your ass..." ~Kirk stepdad
"I told you people I don't need a doctor I AM a Doctor d**nit!" ~McCoy
"Study my ass." ~McCoy
"Who was that pointy-eared bastard?" ~Kirk
"Oh, d**nit." ~McCoy
"Oh it's that pointy-eared bastard." ~McCoy
"d**nit Jim, stand still!" ~McCoy
"Oh yeah! I can't wait to kick some Romulan ass." ~Olsen
"d**nit man! I'm a Doctor not a phicisis!" ~McCoy
"Bullshit." ~Kirk
"You bet your ass Captain!" ~Scottie12 swear words in the entire moive.... Someone call the Police!!! LOL ;D

Ok. KJ, you might not appreciate this, but 12 curse words in one Star Trek movie is quite significant. I believe if you were to watch ALL of the other movies, none of them would come close to that mark.
This whole, "making Trek edgier" is the whole reason that I refuse to follow the franchise any longer. As far as I'm concerned Star Trek died the moment that Data did. It's over. And what we have in it's place is a pale comparison to what it used to be. It's the "Steve" from Multiplicity.

Ahhhhh 13 words...my bad. Another from McCoy...go figure.
And Steve is freaking HILARIOUS! There would be no Multiplicity without him.
ohhhhh just found this...
One Star Trek (perhaps "City on the Edge of Forever") episode ended with Kirk saying: "Let's get the hell out of here." Star Trek The Motion Picture was liberally sprinkled with light swear words (d**n, hell). Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan also contained GD, and SoB in addition to the previously mentioned swears. Star Trek III: The Search for Spock also contained the SoB swear as well as the usual suspects. Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home was loaded with tons of "colorful metaphors" as denoted by Captain Spock, and used with great frequency by Admiral James T. Kirk. Star Trek V: The Final Frontier contained a couple of strong swear words. Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country went back to simple d**ns and hells....and all of that largely in just one minute, and the final of which was uttered by Captain Spock.
And that's not even counting TNG movies.... So it's really not that bad.

The point is, offense is relative. You may not be offended by the liberties that this new "trek" line has taken: Spock and Uhura, destroying Vulcan, and cursing. Some people will be.
Just like some people would not be bothered if someone were to insult Janeway. But you would be.
Everyone is equally entitled to their opinions.

Oh, Indeed. I'm not disputing that. I'm just saying that it's not like it should be such a suprise... they did it in all of the movies. So as it has been said, it may not have been necessary, but you could say that of ALL of them. Trust me, I took BIG offense to Alec's nice 'eff' this and that, in his little video, so I get the relative... Not questioning that at all.

We're not saying it's a surprise. I was actually surprised that there wasn't more. I guess you could say it's like at work when you do a project or something and your boss says you did a good job, but do better next time.

Is this your first pg 13 movie my dear? You should try some rated R! Those love scenes will blow your socks off if you liked Kirk and Orion Girl. Okay, first of all. Is this supposed to be condescending, as if having unusually high personal moral standards is bad? I've seen R-rated movies before, and guess what? I was offended by them too! I, personally, do not swear and I find "just kissing [...] with them in their underwear" to be completely unnecessary and wrong. Scenes in Voyager (like Harry and that girl that makes him start glowing, forget her name) that are just as compromising, I skip. They don't contribute to the story, in my opinion, just add sex appeal - something Star Trek doesn't need huge doses of, since it's awesome enough on its own. It may be that I'm overreacting, I don't know, I had five hours of sleep last night and I'm fried over finals, but I find it irritating that the tone of your post seemed to indicate that the notion of preferring Star Trek leave out the gratuitous foulness was fatuous. And just to clarify: "Love scene: ...usually implies a relatively low degree of sexual explicitness" from an online dictionary. Though the term is used in different ways by different people, my usage was entirely correct. Oh, and an edit: I didn't like the rape-themed scenes in Nemesis either. Just because other ST movies have done similar things doesn't make it right to me, it merely makes it unsurprising for them to do it again. It remains my opinion that such scenes are unnecessary, and, while I will watch ST anyway, I won't accept the language/kissing/whatever simply because they keep doing it.

Okay, first of all. Is this supposed to be condescending, as if having unusually high personal moral standards is bad? Yes. It was meant to be completely condescending, yet in an 'I'm just playing around with you' tone. As the little ;D you put into your last comment... had me interpret...that you were also being a bit more blithe as I was, not the serious 'unusually high moralled' person that you actually were portraying. Apparently I was wrong. I apologize for my own lack of seriousness. Therefore, I will take my own 'unusually low moral standards' (which is apparently what I have based on your deduction, since I do love swearing and don't mind if characters 'get it on' in a movie) opinion, my condescending bitch attitude, and go have a frivolous conversation on the Star Trek boards. I will take note of this and remember to take your words to be completely austere from now on. Oh! And remember to have a dictionary near when I read your posts, so I get nothing else wrong.

Ok, really. This is getting us nowhere. I'm not opposed to discussion. But this is turning into name calling. DDL, you are entitled to your opinion. KJ, you are entitled to yours as well.
But let's be nice. And stop the childishness.

I loved Scottie. Right after Kirk and Spock, Scottie is my favorite.
