Oh, the death glare.......why didn't you say so? That's the only non-verbal form of communication that can shrink us like a tiny amoeba, rendering us unable to speak as we melt into a puddle of humiliation and fear. No......I concede to the death glare.
However, I must jump for joy, for even in the presence of the glare.........this post has promoted me to Lieutenant!!!

See, the problem here is that the anti J/C people are already too biased to see that Chakotay could have a good intent. Wanna know the bad part? I used to be a Chakotay fan. I mean, I never ever thought he was good enough for Janeway. Not by a lightyear. But I more than tolerated him, I actually enjoyed his character. But, I have been bashed over the head so many times with the stupid J/C stick, that I have come to despise Chakotay and everything that he stands for. So if anti J/Cers can see no good in Chakotay....it's really all the J/Cers fault...... ;D

Hey, don't blame me, I'm not really a J/C anyway, I just feel a little closer to that side than the other. I wouldn't let what people say influence how much I can enjoy a character or not. If that were true, I'd LOVE Kes by now considering how many people would like me to but I'm just kind of mule-headed, I guess. Chakotay isn't wonderful, but he's not horrible either. At least he's (usually - you don't have to mention the Scorpion thing, he's had his, er, off days) loyal to Janeway, generally nice to everybody, and okay at his job. "Everything that he stands for," some of this must be imagined, because though he did have some form of an agenda in Resolutions mostly he just "stands for" a First Officer figure and a friend to Janeway. Yes, "friend", she doesn't hate him either, so there must be something good in him for Her to appreciate him. Give the guy a break and start hating the J/C'ers instead or re-evaluate your position on him and maybe you'll be able to see past the hair gel. If, as a standalone character without any influence from the J/C'ers, you still find yourself disliking him again, then go ahead. But don't let someone else's opinion spoil it for you - considering how much of the show he's in, it's more advantageous to not hate him. And don't give me any death glare. I'm just presenting a different kind of argument (I never argue anything over the basis of a smile, especially when I don't think of him in those terms). Hey, I can't help it. My mother used to be an attorney. I got it from her.

Ok, so by your own description there, Chakotay is a paper bag. He isn't extraordinay. Infact, he seems about as average as they come. Aside from when he picks the absolute WORST times to turn his back and get an attitude with Janeway. Which then LOWERS him to slightly below average. So thanks for the offer, but I think I'll stick with my current opinion. Chakotay is a plank. You could replace him with a brown paper bag and noone would know the difference.

A character doesn't have to be extraordinary to be likable. Harry is as average as you could possibly get and yet he garners favor from most viewers. He's had his moments too, if you recall. Harry also has about as much personality as Chakotay does. Arguably, he could also be easily replaced by a paper bag. So could one other character I can think of, but if I say who, a particular member of this forum will take a contract out on me so I won't. I won't try to "sugar coat" Chakotay to try and get you to like him. As I've admitted already, he's not exactly my favorite either. My impression was that the only reason you disliked him was because of having him and his possible relationship with Her forced upon you. I can sympathize; I feel exactly the same way about learning the Spanish language and because of how many people tried to force it on me I've refused to learn it. However, were this same language not pushed on me, I would be willing to learn it. If you have a more complicated reason for not liking him, that works. He already has so many people hating him, however, that I kind of feel sorry for him. He doesn't serve much of a purpose, he's not particularly good to look at, and it's a good idea not to let him drive, but what little he does do he tries to do his best and in the best interests of the crew, as far as I have been able to tell. If nothing else, he's a hard-worker (when he needs to be) and good at remembering people's birthdays (which is more than I can say for my own memory sometimes!).

Ok, I am done with this conversation. I can't stand it when people try to defend Chakotay. My mind is made up and it's not going to change.
For the record though....Harry is way way way WAY WAY WAY better than Chakotay.......AND a lot more fun to look at....LOL
And a big part of my dislike for Chakotay is also what a huge ass Beltran seems to be!!!!

Hey, noone ever answered my hologram question.........what do you guys think about her hooking up with a hologram? In Endgame the Doctor gets married to a real woman. In Blink of an Eye he had kids in the time he was stuck on that planet. So its possible to have a meaningful relationship with a self-aware hologram. Do you think Janeway would do well hangin' with Michael (from Fair Haven). Or- now that the Endgame timeline has changed and the Dr. hasn't married yet, how about the Dr. and Janeway?
