OMG, OMG, OMG.........I can't stop crying, when did I become such a sap? I never used to cry, this is getting ridiculous. I saw this video and I was drawn to it by it's artistic beauty, almost like staring into a painting or dreaming. I watched it again and got swept up into Enya's words, so soothing yet filled with such longing. The third time I got lost in the pictures, the fakes of Janeway and Chakotay, and by the 4th time I was balling because it wasn't real, but it SEEMED REAL, and like a dream at the same time. Oh Lordy, why did Kate do this to us? I love her to death, but why did she deny us the relationship that we knew was there, that so many of us longed for, as admitted by Kate once before (she admitted to having so many fans pleading with her......I just don't get it. I've heard all of the explanations, and I still can't wrap my head around it and perhaps never will.) This seems pathetic, being sad for a relationship that never got a chance between characters; non-living beings. But they are real to me. To put this into Voyager terms, remember when the Doctor gave Janeway that speech about not worrying if Michael wasn't real, that all that mattered was that her emotions were real and how he made her feel? I woke up this morning with the same sinking feeling.......and had a revelation. I couldn't for the life of me figure out WHY that video struck me, and still does every time I watch it (ummm......yeah I've watched it like four times since I got home today). It's not the relationship, it's HER LONELINESS!! THAT WAS IT!!! She seems so darn lonely in that video, and the song's words reflect that. It's almost subliminal, the effect the combination of those haunting words and images can have (not to mention Enya's unique vocals)! A promise made may still come true,
So I am waiting here for you.

Who shall I tell my secrets to?I think back to Endgame, when Janeway invited Chakotay to lunch, and he turned her down to be, ahem*.....elsewhere. Janeway seemed disappointed. It's THAT image that keeps flashing in my mind, every time I hear the words "Who shall I tell my secrets to?". Okay, I'm gonna cry again. Darn. |
