Im watching warstories right now. This episode kinda weirds me out. I dont like seeing Mal and Wash get treated like that. Makes my skin crawl.

Eesh, yes. I especially hate it when Mal's ear gets cut off and when they stick that thing on his chest and you can see it under his skin.... I finished the disks. I can't believe that they were canceled! There's so much I want to know still... like what is Shepherd Book really? etc.

Well, I just finished watching Serenity..
I'll start out by saying I loved the beginning. The action was incredible, the newly introduced operative was thoroughly established as capable and determined, River was as creepy as she always is, and the characters were true to themselves. That said, I think killing most of the main characters off was dropping the ball. I understand what point Whedon was trying to make - to sum it up, as he said in the introduction, (paraphrase) "they killed us, but we went on and did the impossible and we are mighty for it". So okay, I understand that we needed some loss - Book and Simon, for instance. But then it got personal. Impaling Wash didn't, at least not for me, establish further that point. It's only embittered me to the movie. After that, I watched the rest of the movie in a sort of daze, thinking, "this can't be real". If they're serious about letting River fly, I'm dubious. If they mean for Mal to fly for now on, I disagree. He's too busy captaining. If they mean to hire another pilot, he won't be another Wash. I admit I'll miss Simon a bit, since he was the champion of the "caring brother" role, and I liked his refinement among the rest of them. But Simon never played with dinosaurs, and much as I'd like to watch the show the same way, every time I see Wash I'll remember him slumped in his chair with a spear through his chest. Not to say I'm no longer a fan; I still consider myself a Browncoat since I like the TV series and intend to buy it for my mother's birthday to surprise her. :] I just think killing two main characters was excessive, and not just for Wash's sake. Even had he been spared, and another killed in his place, I would still consider it so.
I'd say more, but I have to get off and run an errand.

I agree I was pissed. I still am and I dont watch the mavie that much because of what he wrote. I cried and still cry when I see what happened to Wash because he and Zoe in one of the last episodes were talking about how she wanted to meet their baby one day and that he said it wasnt the right time to bring a babay up on the deep edges of space. I cried and crioed. d**n Whedon

Yeah, when I saw that, I thought (of Joss) "Curse your sudden [...] betrayal!" because I think he betrayed Wash by killing him off. I managed to hold the tears back because I refuse to cry over anything with someone there with me and I wasn't watching it alone, but I had to wipe them back at least three times, which means I was deeply moved. It was like... WHY?? =/
