The third book written about the crew of Voyager, Ragnarok is nothing special. The characters are overly generalized stereotypes. Since the series was new, some of that was to be expected, but not as much as is presented.
The basic story line is that Janeway, against Neelix's warning, takes Voyager straight through a centuries old war, to explore a tachyon beam. Janeway is portrayed as careless, overly eager, and moody. This, ofcourse, plucks my last nerve. Chakotay pilots a shuttle (enough said), Kes says about three words, Tom does nothing but whine the whole time, Neelix is overly argumentative, B'Elanna is far too aggressive (at one point she lifts an ensign up off the ground), the Doctor is sarcastic as always, Harry saves the day, and Tuvok is a walking calculator.
To me, there was nothing remarkable about the story whatsoever. Infact, I spent most of the time irritated because the author continuously referred to Voyager as "the Voyager." For example: "I'll start broadcasting immediately, Captain, and then move in closer, away from the Voyager"
If you're looking for an interesting Voyager book, I'd pick a different one.

" The Voyager...!!! ".......oh boy, I don't know about this one. I think I will go to " The Amazon.com" and cancel " the order" for " The Ragnarok".

I hate to be critical about my beloved Voyager books but "Ragnarok" is actually the weakest of the books. The premise is good but the story isn’t really working. Exciting in parts but most of all a lot of shooting and running. Some of our favorites do act a little strange too. Janeway actings are a bit irresponsible and Neelix is especially annoying with his constant whining.
The reason for the strange acting from our favorites might be because the author hadn't seen a single episode when he wrote the book. He started writing it before the first episode was aired and he only had basic information about the characters available. However, the authors of "The Escape" were in the same situation but managed better with the characters.

I have to admit as addicted to books in general as I am I couldn't wait to put this book down. I finished it coz to not finish it would...well it would be wrong. No one acted right, Janeway certainly wouldn't put her ship in such obvious danger on such a flimsy excuse. The othrs too were all wrong. It seemed to be written for the sake of writing another Voyager book, not because they wanted to say anything in particular about the journey or the characters or even the Delta Quadrant
