I hate them. I also have them.
Got back from the allergist today. He did one of those skin test things where they stab - aka scratch - your back with those little toothpick-like things that are coated in different allergens to see which ones are positive.
I was tested for 82 different allergens (my back wasn't thrilled at that). Out of them all, I was NEGATIVE to only 21. Which means 61 that I'm allergic to. I had no idea. I mean, I knew I was allergic to furry animals already, as just being in the same room with a couple dogs will have me itching and dripping in a couple minutes, but had no idea I was so allergic to all those molds and weeds.
Despite being a life-time bird owner, I'm also allergic to feathers, although I sort of suspected it anyway.
Fortunately, no food allergies. But if it's a furry animal, I'm allergic to it: mice, dogs, cats, horses, rodents, etc. Which is a shame, since I own a cat and am getting a dog....
He wants me back in three weeks to get the inter dermals, which are supposed to hurt a whole lot more. They're comparable to TB testing, which I had to do this January in able to volunteer at the nursing home. I didn't enjoy that at all, and he wants to do four of them on me. One control, one cockroach, one Bermuda grass, and one weed bomb or something.
Then he'll womp up a formula for the allergy shots I'll have to take for the next four to five years. They usually take about a year before a noticeable difference at all, which was a bit discouraging, so I'm not waiting that long to get a dog.
Incidentally, this allergist doesn't break precedent for my personal theory that all allergists are weird people. I've had about five so far and every single one of them has been strange, so I'm assuming it's a prerequisite.
Anyone else have to deal with allergies?
