I'M HERE!!!!!!!!! I HAVEN'T HAD A CHANCE TO BREATHE WITH CATCHING UP AT WORK AND REHEARSALS (darn it, don't they know I have more important things to do, like tell my peoples how things went with Kate? ) Seriously guys, I'm sorry for the delay. It really has been crazy; I haven't even picked my dogs up from boarding at the vet yet......they probably think I've abandoned them! During my breaks at work, I've been downloading pictures of the scrapbook and trying to adjust them so you can see them better. I only have part of them done, so I will post what I have tonight and post the rest
tomorrow, including the picture of Kate (haha........now THAT, I AM doing on purpose, hee hee *evil grin*)
Allright, I'll start with the scrapbook itself; here it is ladies and gents: 14 fabulous fans contributed their beautiful artwork, letters, and stories (and OMG the book was so thick I could hardly get it closed. needless to say I was panicking; especially since I only had an hour left before I had to leave for the play!)
FRONT OF THE SCRAPBOOK (IT WAS A TAFFETA BLACK WITH GOLD LINES GOING DOWN THE SIDE AND HAD A CLEAR VINYL PROTECTOR). The words at the top and on the combadge said "
You Raise Me Up......a collection of fan letters for our favorite leading lady, Kate Mulgrew." (I dedicated this song to her from us based on the Celtic Woman CDs that I gave her in the giftbag....)
Here's another view. I'm sorry that it's blurry........try standing a few feet from your computer and you can see fine.
INTRO PAGE: This explained the book; Here's the intro letter.....
Dear Ms. Mulgrew,
Once upon a time, there was a girl named Kate, who dreamed of growing up to become a wonderful actress and share her love, joy, and passion with the world. She fought, and worked, and overcame to become one of the most gifted actors known to us. She had achieved her dream…….and in doing so had inspired her fans to fight, work, and overcome in their own lives, so that they too would achieve what their hearts desire. But wait, the story doesn’t end there……..Ms. Kate then challenged her fans to get up, get out, and make a difference. The fans listened to their eloquent speaker and then raised themselves to a higher level of being, one that all people should hope to achieve: helping others. From then on, the fans made a positive impact on their world and lived much happier lives………all thanks to Ms. Kate. Hold on there………STILL not finished! Then to top it all off, Kate indirectly brought these devoted fans together on forums, myspace, and storyboards. Sharing their fondness for the best Captain in Star Trek History, (aka Captain Janeway) and the gifted actress that played her, these fans became close friends. These are our thankyous and our stories. I hope you enjoy them.
Sincerely,
Vanessa Martinez

GIFT PAGE: This page explained the gifts; here's the letter......
The Meaning Behind the Gifts:
1. The fanbook- A collection of fanletters, artwork, and fanfiction from various fans.
2. The wine stopper/cork- I wanted to get you something that represented the area where I live. I knew that you liked wine, but I suck at picking out the good stuff. Therefore I opted for a glass/metal wine cork that was hand crafted by a local artisan. The inside of the globe “glimmers” like the stars in space, and hence reminded me of Voyager (you can almost see that little ship floating in there, hee hee.) The artist said the globe is made out of Pyrex (strongest glass around), so you can drop it several times before it will chip.
3. Celtic Woman CD, A New Journey- If angels could sing, they would sound like these women. I knew you loved Ireland and thought you may like their music. You may already have these CDs. If you do, then give these to someone you love that doesn’t have them. The song “The Prayer” reminds me of anyone I’ve ever cared about and lost…….imagining that they are still watching over me. I imagine you would think of your Mother, just as I think of my Grandmother (she died of Alzheimer’s disease several years ago, but she is still with me in spirit.)
4. Celtic Woman CD, Celtic Woman: You may not want to listen to this while driving (it may calm you into a cozy sleep……..). “The Last Rose of Summer” (song #1) reminds me of the fairytales and legends of Ireland. It is absolutely magical. “One World” (#5) gives me hope for the world and eventually finding peace (especially next year when we can finally get our ridiculous president out of office and finally have someone decent in the white house. It’s been a LOOOOONG eight years!!!) “Someday” (#10) paints a lovely picture of the future. It reminds me of the Star Trek philosophy and why we Trek fans love it so much: “Someday life will be fairer, mean will be rarer, and greed will not pay”..... There is an obvious reason why the fans in this fanbook as well as other Trek enthusiasts suscribe to this vision; it promises a better future. Here are my favorite quotes describing the “Trek Future”, ones that I use to explain to non-trekkers the appeal of the series……….
Troy to Zephran Cochrane in First Contact, describing how his warp engine has impacted the future of Earth:
“It unites humanity in ways that no one ever thought possible, when they realize they’re not alone in the universe. Poverty, disease, war……they’ll all be gone within the next 50 years.”
Captain Picard to Lily in First Contact:
“Money doesn’t exist in the 24th century. The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in our lives. We work to better ourselves and the rest of humanity.”
*SIGH*……..love it.
-Vanessa
I know this all seems kinda cheesy, but remember: I was working on no sleep that week!
Be glad it didn't have carebears and smurfs on it. MY PAGES: As the editor I got the honor of being first.....yay! These are my pages.........
1. Vulkon pictures:
2. My pictures; family, friends, pets, etc....... (ummm; just in case you guys haven't guessed, I LOVE photos!!)
3. My personal letter to Kate about how Alzeiheimer's has affected me through the loss of my Grandmother and how Kate has inspired me to make a difference.
4. My Little Shop Story (how Kate helped me get that role.....) I found a cool picture of Janeway and the Prehensile plant, and had a tag above the photo that read this..........
STAR TREK: Little Shop of Horrors, starring Captain Janeway as Audrey and the prehensile plant as Audrey II.
(yeah, yeah, I know..........no sleep; REMEMBER?? ;D)
5. DISCLAIMER........some of you are about to be shocked and dismayed at the next page, so just to warn you:
It's J/C!!!!Yep, I had to put my two cents in.......and Kate respects honesty, doesn't she? Haha, I knew I would never mention J/C at a convention, less Sarah mows me down before I get the words out of my mouth, so here it is: my two cents (meant in a completely light-hearted way, besides........I KNOW she knows how many fans feel, especially after watching her convention talks on the subject. She seems to find it quite amusing.) Here's the letter........
I'm sure I don't have to explain what J/C is. The majority of us in this book are J/C fans, with the exception of Sarah who considers herself a "purist" and believes noone was good enough for Janeway so why bother. The rest of us were cruelly teased and strung along until season 7, when we gasped as "the drone" attempted to steal Kathyrn's man! We were dismayed until Jeri Taylor and Ms. Golden broke that whole 7/C thing up in their books (phew........that was a close one!) Although we totally respect your choices as an actress and love everything you do, we have to admit that we think you got this one wrong. J/C forever!
Sarah, don't be mad..........I pointed out to her that you agree with her; that she had somone on her side, right?....hee hee. *nervous grin*
6. THE FAVORITES PAGE: Random pictures of our favs and hers, including our favorite Janewayism, the "death glare" (I included that avatar that you guys love so much that says "this look means your in deep shit". )
6. MY SISTER CHRISTINA'S PAGE:
7-10. Dawn's page (a fan fiction writer known as "Singing Violin" b/c she sings and plays the violin.) She wanted to sign her letter, so I actually got to meet her in NYC. She was very nice and we hit it off right away........we just kept talking about Kate and Voyager. She's going back to see Iphigenia a SECOND time (lucky....)
PICS:
HER LETTER:
ODE TO COFFEE POEM:
FANFICTION:
11. THE POETS FROM COLUMBUS: I thought she'd get a kick out of seeing her beloved poets "behind the scenes". I included a copy of the poem to "remind her", not that she would actually forget.
That's all I got for right now..................until tomorrow,
-Nessa
