This isn't really totally an ebay thing, but I didn't know where to put it, & I didn't want to make a whole new thread for it. Last Saturday I went to this comic book convention, because Walter Koenig was there. Somebody had a table there & was selling ST action figures & stuff... so I got some, they were only 3 for $5. They're not exactly mint... but I'm going to be hanging them high on a wall, so nobody but me will know, lol... The only Voyager action figure they had was Janeway, which I got... because although I have her, I took her out of the packing (I was 12 or so when I got her, lol...). So I wanted one that I could hang up on the wall with Chakotay . I also got Scotty from a TNG ep, Barclay from TNG... and Kira, Odo, & O'Brien from DS9 (because they're my favs). So it ended up being $10 for all of them. I also got 3 ornaments, Spock, Data, & McCoy. I think the ornaments ended up being $35. But my absolute favorite... she had some micro machines still in the package... I saw one with Voyager inside (Limited Edition Collector's Set III), so I asked how much it was. She said $5.00... Which I so said yes to, lol. I knew it was definitely worth more than $5.00... because I know the little Voyager micro machine ship sells for more than that alone, on ebay. My plans were to take it out of the package & display it on my shelf... but when I checked ebay out of curiousity... There was one on there already going for $50.00, with quite a few days left. So I've been watching it and the thing just sold today for $197.50! I'm uhh, not taking it out of the package now.

OMFG. At last I ordered seasons 1-7, trying hard to avoid Asian and international copies, off of eBay, for about $325. And then yesterday we got an email from eBay saying the seller had had all of his listings frozen and that they recommended we try to get our money back asap. Fortunately we paid via visa card, but I am so mad!!!! I want my Voyager set.

I just won a really cool collector's items auction: "This auction is for two items from the 1999-2000 season of Star Trek: Voyager. The black baseball cap is a holiday gift given to cast and crew (the "2K" stands for the year 2000), and is embroidered in white, gold and blue. It is brand-new and has never been worn. The Jupiter Station plaque measures approximately 8" x 8", and was created for the 6th Season episode "Life Line." It was made as a backup for scenes set on Jupiter Station, and was never used on screen, although it hung in the Voyager art department for two seasons. It was created by the Paramount Studios Sign Shop, using a polymer etching process that was then mounted on MDF and silk-screened in silver and dark blue. The Jupiter logo is a high-resolution inkjet print on vinyl, mounted on thin black styrene, and set off from the base with several pieces of foam tape. It is in excellent condition, with no visible scratches or abrasions." Now how cool is that?

So, we learned about this in Microeconomics class the other day. I think Ebay is what's called a second-price auction (sort of). That is, you pay a little more than the maximum amount someone else bid. So if you were outbid by .50 you may have been outbid by a lot more than that. The dominant strategy in a second-price auction (which is, technically, where you pay the *exact* second-highest bid when your bid was highest) is to bid the absolute maximum amount you're willing to pay for the item. Then, if someone outbids you, you wouldn't have wanted to win anyway because the price they're paying is more than your reservation price (that is, you'd be getting negative net value). In an auction setting when you end up paying more than the item is worth, that's called the "Winner's Curse." So, by not winning the item, you avoided that

Vanessa - Xena is AWESOME and is sold cheap new (at least, compared to Star Trek). The Xena DVD set has some of the best extras of any series I've ever seen on DVD. Outtakes, interviews and commentary for almost all the episodes, etc. And the series was great too! I highly recommend you just buy it (from Amazon or Barnes & Noble or in a store) and don't worry about finding it on Ebay

I, personally, don't care that much for Xena. I'd wanted to see it my whole life and when I finally got the chance I was thrilled. There were a few episodes that were shown that made me decide that I had much better things to do than watch that. I still am a big Joxer fan though!! Joxer the mighty roams through the countryside he never needs a place to hide with Gabby as his side-kick fighting with her little stick.... OK, I'm done...

It *is* true that there were some real clunkers, especially in early seasons. I disagree with you about Joxer though - I watch for Ares. *drools* I like Lucy Lawless too. She's a real character. (And she sings!) My guess is you set your expectations too high and got super-disappointed by the bad ones (and did you try to watch it out of order?) The end of the series also upset a lot of people (if you got that far).

I was actually really into the show, but it was the whole thing I saw later about Xena and Gabby being a "destiny couple." I wasn't too thrilled about that. That's why I stopped watching.
