I personally have to say that I have an intense dislike for Seven. I'll not go so far as to say I hate her. Here's a great clip I found of Kate talking about Seven's character. I read a Jeri Ryan interview a long time ago which completely rubbed me the wrong way. I will have to repost it here soon. Click HereThe best part is when Kate says "vodka, vodka" ;D

I want to formally put this out there for all to see (specifically Kate Mulgrew). Dear Kate, I want you to know that I believe you could have carried Janeway and all of Voyager to its fullest. You are the the epitome of brilliant acting, and all I want you to know is that I trust in you, as an actress, that you would have made it WITHOUT Jeri. All my love and trust ~KateJaneway (and now you all know my opinion of Seven.) (and in case it was over your head....Blah!)

Awe, that's sweet! I love how Kate is honest and says she was offended. But I also love it that she talks about how 7 was a "good ploy, a good actress, etc." but never says anything about actually liking her as a person.
Perhaps Kate read the same article that I did......
This is from the May 19-25, 2001 TV Guide:
"The hair became a symbol and I resented that.' On a roll, Mulgrew says she also 'resented the fact that the network felt we needed a blond-bombshell presence to raise the ratings. Nothing personal, but on a deep level I thought, 'd**n, if only they'd given me more of a chance...' Ryan was prepared for hurt feelings. 'It was, at best, an awkward situation,' she says of her fourth-season breakthrough as the busty, Borgified Seven, an unabashedly blatant (and successful) attempt to lure young male viewers with cheesecake. 'No one in an ensemble show is going to like some new person coming in and getting tons of press and story lines, but I think it was toughtest on Kate," Ryan says. 'Until the addition of Seven, Kate was the one all the publicity focused around. I'm sure it was tough for that focus to shift. But what was I going to do-not do press so that I wouldn't step on toes?"
Now to me, that just screams bitch. What's up with that whole publicity thing. I would say that Kate still got far more publicity than 7 did, except for maybe in male magazines.
Jeri Ryan is a complete idiot. Kate was upset because she was trying to do something that rose above gender standards, she was a forerunner. Not only did Jeri Ryan come in and bring down standards of the show by serving as "t&a," but then she wants to brag about it, or atleast feel as if it's deserved. I don't know whether I should hate her, or I should just feel really sorry for her.

You know what JF? I think that what has transpired between the two just shows a lot. I mean take Kate for example, she has shown so much class in the way she will not talk down Jeri. (and I'm sure she could come up with a few jabs) Kate's character says it all. Jeri on the other hand, came off completely classless. She showed the world exactly the type of woman she was, and that was a 'C' rated actress, who is just a fill-in t&a character with NO depth. The Voyager fans watched Kate for her intelligence, spirit, and for her true portrayal of one of Star Trek's greatest characters. Some fans watched Jeri for ....well it had nothing to do with her brains. I do not want to look-up to a character who's sole purpose is to sell sex. And that is exactly why Jeri was there. I look up to Janeway/Kate for her strength, honesty, integrity, and her sincerity, as a person. Her unparalleled acting ability is just a bonus!

I know that I watched for Kate's intelligence. I know that Jeri was put on the show to up the raitings, but I don think that it was a necessary action that had to be made.
Personally I dont really like Seven as a charater that much. I think that it was because of the borg aspect in her. The emotionless and "cold" in a way character really started to annoy me. I know that there are other episodes that I wold much rather watch then an episode where Seven is one of the main character. Human Error is one of them, but then I find my self noticing that when Seven is talking I feel the need to fast forward it for some reason.
That is one thing that I did admire about Janeway, she had the ability to make the viewer feel the episode. I dont think that any other actor/ress has had that effect on me when I am watching something. Granted I dont like to watch that much TV so that also says something about the power of Kate's acting. When Voyager was first siring on TV I couldnt wait to get home and watch it after work.
For now...

I many not speak for the group, but I do believe that everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Take Mel and I...we are J/C lovers, where JF is an avid J/C hater... And we make it.... Our hate stems more to Jeri Ryan the "actress" not necessarly the character.... (or at least that is my opinion) There are times in Voyager where Seven has made some witty retorts.... now just cause I want to fast foward threw her does not mean your not welcome in my book.... so Welcome!
