How very true.... I am on the edge on the issue....i do think that given some more character....and less "akouchi moya" he would have been very good for Janeway... Now that I have watched and read ablout alot of Janeway...I have come to the conclusion that she can do very much better. Maybe its more DESERVES so much better. Chakotay killed it for me when he did not stand by her in Scorpion. That was where his downfall for me began. So ther you go JF..... Oh crap this was suppost to be a Seven debate.... *cough* How about that optical nerve thingy, huh? Take Mel and I...we are J/C lovers, where JF is an avid J/C hater... And we make it.... HEY!!! I thought you said you were reconsidering the whole J/C thing.....if that's the case, you're not a J/C lover, you're a J/C liker or mayber.....ha ha. Come over to the other side....its so much nicer.... ;D

Seven of nine is one of the best on the show. I think Kate Mulgrew is just really jealous. They needed to attract more guys to the show, and not alot of guys think kate mulgrew is that hot. Adding Jeri Ryan as Seven was genius. It sure got me watching a little closer. I like the show before her, but it didnt hurt by adding her. Like I said, Kate's just mad she couldnt fit into jeri's costumes. HAHA.

I don't like Seven Of Nine and here are my reasons why:
First of all, she replaced Kes! I remember that every time I did watch a Voyager episode after Kes was gone and Seven did show up I was annoyed, thinking "They did kick out Kes for that!" It's the same today, every time I see a picture of Seven and read some posters praising of the character, I do remember that Kes was kicked out to make room for her.
Second, I don't like the reason for bringing in the character in the first place. Those in charge were worried that Voyager didn't have as good ratings as TNG (now what could they expect, TNG was a sensation when it was aired) so they decided to do something. So what did they do? Hire some writers who could come up with even better stories? No! Really use and develope the wonderful characters they had? No! They decided to "sex up" the show by adding a "sexy babe"!
Personally I find that cheap and not worthy a seres like Star Trek.
Dressing up Seven in a catsuit was cheap and silly! It was so obvious that the character was brought in as sex symbol.
Third, the over-focus on the character. It wasn't enough that Seven replaced Kes, we also had her more and less rammed down our throats. Everey episode was focused on Seven. She became the main character while the other characters were shoved in the background. Really sad, considering the fact that Voyager had the best characters of all Trek series.
Seven was also prominent in magazines and such too. It was impossible to read any Star Trek magazine without having at least ten pictures of Seven in it, plus the occasional poster and have to read at least one article about "the beautiful Borg". It became sickening. Not to mention the praising of the character from those in charge in every issue of the Star Trek magazines. "Seven saved the show". Oh yeah! It was like Voyager didn't really existed before Seven arrived.
Fourth, some of Seven's fans are not the nicest around. I remenber my first post ever on a forum (which no longer exists) when I stated that it was wrong to kick out Kes and that Kes should be brought back to the series (that was in 1998). I was immediately attacked by some fans of Seven Of Nine who told me that my favorite caracter was crap, that it was good that she had been kicked out and that "sexy seven" was the best thing that ever happened (oh yes, they had their reason to like the character which was more for her looks and "attributes" than anything else). After being declared an idiot by those people I started to pay back and became a nasty person until I discovered that there were fans who did like Seven Of Nine as a character and not only as sex symbol and also appreciated Jeri Ryan's acting. Thanks to those fans, I have become more objective and understanding in my atitude to Seven and her fans. But I will probably never be a fan of the character.
I can also understand that Kate Mulgrew was a bit annoyed. First they kick out her good frien Jennifer Lien (Kes) for no acceptable reason at all and replace her with someone whose character is supposed to be a sex symbol. Then the new character is allowed to take over the show and become the star. It wasJaneway who was supposed to be the main star of the series, not Seven. If I had been in the same situation as Mulgrew, I would have reacted the same way.
As for Jeri Ryan, I find her a good actress and I have enjoyed her performances and characters in series like "Boston Public", "OC" and "Shark".

i dont want to sound sexist, but it seems like only women were annoyed by jeri ryan joining the cast of voyager. Gee, I wonder why? Seven was a very interesting character, even beyond her looks. Her story was good, and I think she fit in the whole picture well. To me, Kes was a boring part of the show. And one other thing: I do not understand the obsession with Kate Mulgrew as Janeway. I find her pretty annoying after ahwile. They could have found a FAR better woman to play that part. Her voice in the earlier episodes is like nails on a chalkboard. Plus, I hate that "fake" english-style accent she used. I know this is going to cause this forum to implode because of all the "kate" fanatics, but I just wanted to voice my opinion on her.

Yes you do sound very sexist, although it seems slightly amusing, atleast to me, that you would post such a response after Lynx, another man expressed all of his reasons for not liking Seven. Or perhaps you simply assume that it is only women who don't like Seven. I know several men in fact, who do not prefer her as a character. I do not understand the obsession with Kate Mulgrew as Janeway. I find her pretty annoying after ahwile. They could have found a FAR better woman to play that part. I know this is going to cause this forum to implode because of all the "kate" fanatics, but I just wanted to voice my opinion on her. Well you finally understand where we come from and can't seem to fathom all of the Seven adoring. I personally prefer the episdoes which don't feature her as much. Implode? I don't think so. This forum can survive one disliker of Janeway, however, if I were you I would fear the wrath of kj. Just a helpful hint. She has refrained herself so far, but I can't promise that she will after that comment.

Jeri Ryan got a lot of publicity and alot of air time, it is true. But if there is one star of Voyager, it most certainly is Kate Mulgrew!

If a guy does not like seven, I think that he must not like ANY girls. (if you know what I mean)

If a guy does not like seven, I think that he must not like ANY girls. (if you know what I mean) Wow, that might be the most offensive statement I've read all day long. Just for the record, I am not going to tolerate you insulting the other members on this board. Voicing an opinion is one thing. Making blanket statements about other members will NOT be tolerated. So you can consider this a warning.

Muffs, man I got to tell you that you are really quick to assumption. So, if, by your "standards" men do not like Jeri Ryan they are in someway inferior to you? Or is it they they are not "men", because they prefer to see a woman as more that just a walking sex object. Has it ever occurred to you that most "Men" (and this is in today's reality) prefer conversation as opposed to sex. Did you know that there was a poll ran by Playboy and Maxium asking men what they would most want in a realtionship.... Any idea what the top poll was for? No? Humm...I didn't think you would. Conversation and Laughter. And my dear, I'm sorry to say, but Jeri Ryan....not so much in the intelligence category (if you know what I mean) , but I suppose you could find her humorous if you wanted to talk about shoes and hair.... the way the pretty colors of her eyes match her new toe polish.....then be my guest. Kate Mulgrew is a woman I respect. She has helped fight and find ways to treat Alzheimer's Disease and childrens funds. She promotes reading....(you know paper fasten and bound together, with words, stentences, etc. I'll give you a link if you need reference to one) I do believe that Mulgrew made Voyager what it was. Now there are those select few that did not like her....as like you, and so be it to each their own. I may say some not nice things about Jeri, but you have to admit, you did start this. Now. We all have our likes and dislikes. We should be able to come to some kind of intellectual agreement? I will not reference to Jeri Ryan's/Seven's lack of intellect and acting ability....if you agree to restrict your comments of Kate. Now I know you are a man....i get that "hear you roar" thing. So talk about about Jeri/Seven....I don't care if you like the way she looked in her outfit.....(which she didn't even like, so why would Kate want to degrade herself in it anyway) ....dude talk all about how she moved in it. Just knock it off with the Mulgrew jabs. We have been a small "collective" (there you go, a word in your/Seven vocab....) and we have ALL been Janeway fans....and we all do love Kate. We will just have to "adapt" to new people with different likes, and I am willing to put our differences aside and not bash Jeri... Now I guess the question is .....ARE YOU? Cheers! ~KJ If a guy does not like seven, I think that he must not like ANY girls. (if you know what I mean)

I think a "truce" is the most logical course of action. That way everyone can be happy and get back to enjoying Voyager, instead of bickering about it.

If a guy does not like seven, I think that he must not like ANY girls. (if you know what I mean) So you mean that something is wrong with me because I find Kes more attractive than Seven? I think you're wrong here. Kes has a natural beauty which I prefer. You don't have to put her in a catsuit, she looks good whatever she wears and I do think that she simply looks better than Seven. I also find Kes a better and more interesting character for many reasons than Seven. The problem with Seven is that she's too obvious as a sex symbol ifyou understand what I mean. The whole marketing of the character was as a downright sex symbol which I did find a bit annoying. As a matter of fact, I prefer both Janeway and Torres before Seven. Both are better characters and both of them looks good too!
