Okay, so I've decided that I'm slightly looking forward to this movie now. I'm liking the people they're choosing for the roles, so that's why. They have several people onboard from the show "Heros", which is neat, I just read that Zoe Saldana (one of my favorite actresses) may be Lt. Uhura. YAY! Here's a link, but I can't figure out how to translate it in English, sorry. www.jornadabbs.com/index.php?Act=1&idNews=522Here's some pics of Zoe: From when she was in Pirates of the Caribbean: From when she was in Drumline:

I, personally, can't wait for the movie. I am fairly sceptic about it, but I'm not going to skip seeing a Trek movie in the theater this time! (With the others I didn't have a job and my family basically only went to the theater for a birthday or Christmas.)

)o: A couple months ago I saw a newer trailer and IDK if you have heard, but the new Trek movie's been pushed back about 6 months. So again we have to wait over a year to see it....

I'm sorry guys but d*mn, Zachary Quinto did make a good Spock. (My opinion) I personally can't wait to see it. As much as I would love them to move forward instead of back... At least Star Trek refuses to go out quietly. And the cast. (Kirk is soooo hot!)

Ok, every single time that I actually think I'm being too hard on J.J Abrams, and maybe this film won't be so bad, something comes along and f*cks that up.
First there was the Entertainment Weekly article which basically called Star Trek whimsy and a huge joke. Yes, insult an entire fan base, the people who are actually going to go out and spend $10 to see your movie (regardless of your claims about it being a movie for "people who like movies" and not Star Trek fans). Good luck with that.
But, that was wearing thin, and my manager told me last night that the preview is out. I actually was interested, or even excited to see it. But then I watched it. And when the little boy says his name, he says James SIBERIUS Kirk!!!
Are you freaking kidding me!!!! The man's name is James Tiberius Kirk...With a T. If these men cannot even get Kirk's name right, then why in the world should I ever believe that they are capable of making a reasonably canon-sound movie??? How can I expect them to treat the Star Trek world with the respect it's due? Especially when they think it's a joke? Why should I spend my hard earned money on a movie that will no doubt disapoint and anger me?
And don't think it's just the name thing either. The Enterprise was built in space. But, according to the new movie, it's now being built on Earth. Good bye continutity.
And for everybody that defends the changes.....what happens when they change continuity so much that TNG or Voyager is no longer feasible....
We as fans have to stop accepting this crap and stand up for something better.
Ok, my rant's over....

Ohmygosh. ARE THEY OUT OF THEIR FREAKING MINDS?!? I just can't believe that people could do that to something as beautiful as Star Trek.

I agree that it's probably going to suck. I'm stuck between a rock and hard place. Do I buy tickets opening weekend in support of my beloved Star Trek? Or do I wait 'til it comes out on DVD since I don't think it'll be all that great? Grr....

OMG!!! Buy the tickets!!!! Who cares if its going to be shit! It's STAR TREK whether we like it or not, and AND as much complaining that we all do, that they have abandoned our fandom...... I'm sorry but beggars can't be choosers. Not everything they make we are all going to like. Some will love it, some will hate it. I will love it because it is Trek. And if it fails because it's not to 'our' standards.... who is to say when or if they ever will make another one.
Come on.... I mean really, what Star Trek series is 100% complete cannon??? TNG changed a lot of the Klingon lore from the original series..... Voyager was a bit different on the Borg from TNG... DS9... Blah.... and Enterprise is continuously knocked for its horrible display of cannon, but they all are embraced as Trek.
It has been 6 years people! 6 years since the last movie! I'm just thankful they still see a future for Trek. Maybe it will be crap, but it still opens the door for more..... IF IF this one does well. Studios don't generally support future movies if the current ones don't do well.
And in that future... we just have to demand better from the ones making the movies. I guess the future of Trek is up to us.

Hmm... you definitely have a point there, KJ. I'd still love to see it opening weekend because who knows if they'll ever make another one. We'll have to see how busy I am first, because I have two major events happening next May (even though both of them are later in the month).

Here is the trailer. Ya'll judge for yourself. www.startrekmovie.com/To me it sounds like he says Tiberious.... just with a bit of a lisp.

I think he said Tiberius. Just ran in with the "s" at the end of James.
Thanks for the link, BTW. I haven't been able to enjoy it 'til now. Every time I thought to check I was at a computer that didn't have speakers or something. Now I've heard it, thanks.

Sorry KJ, but I have to disagree. If you accept crap, then people will never give you anything else.
If we, as Trek fans accept something that breaks our standards, our ideals of Trek....and accept it, just because it has the Trek name attatched to it, then we are accepting crap. And why would they go out of their way to provide us with material we actually give a d**n about if they know we'll all just settle for whatever shit they shovel out.
No. The more I think about this movie, the more it pisses me off. This might actually be the first Trek movie since I was a little girl that I skip on.
As far as I'm concerned, either way we lose....the movie does poorly, no more Trek movies....the movie does well, they'll stick with the ridiculous prequel idea. I've come to terms with the fact that I'll never get my much desired Voyager movie. But, I won't support one of the reasons for such disappointment.....
but that's just my humble opinion
