I loved Scotty too. I thought he had some of the funniest lines in the movie.

I really liked the new Trek movie! I had some issues with the canon violations, but otherwise, I thought it rocked. I like that people who'd never seen Star Trek before were able to enjoy it and maybe get interested in the franchise. I'll definitely buy it when it comes out on DVD.

Yall might call me crazy or whatever but I totally hated the movie. I didn't even want to see it in the first place. The only reason I saw it is cuz my dad wanted to take me. Personally I just thought it dumb, and lame. To be honest I almost fell asleep in the theater (twice) while the movie was playing.
But of course it was more aimed to those that are new to Star Trek and made to appeal to them and those that weren't all that interested in all things Trek in the first place. I don't know how many of you know people that all their life hated Star Trek but then suddenly liked it after watching this movie.

May I ask what canon violations you mean? What started it all is something that happened after Voyager's time and it's about that event. It brought them back in time to change the past. Sort of creating a new canon instead of violating the old one. (But I hope they don't do anything with the new one because I'm sure some of my favorite characters will have never existed (Tuvok, Vorik, etc.).

Everything in it was true to its own cannon because they altered time, thereby making it an alternate reality. I personally, can't wait for the next two.

It is true they are making a squeal. That much I know. I've yet to know about a third.

Mara, they're going to be moving forward, in this new timeline for the foreseeable future of Trek. They've sufficiently erased the past fourty years and will be moving in whatever ridiculous way they chose henceforth. Let's all have a moment of silence for all of the poor Vulcans that will never get to be........

I did read in Entertainment Weekly the whole cast has signed on for 2 more films... The 2 qualms I had were: Kirk being born in outer space (I thought it was Iowa) and Spock's mom dying (I'm pretty sure she was alive in one or more of the TOS movies). And the whole Vulcan being destroyed thing. So I guess the whole time travel & alternate reality stuff is supposed to cancel that out.
I DO wish JJ Abrams and whoever wrote the script could have done it without these things happening, b/c JF is right, if they make more, they'll have to stick with this timeline and the changes and that's just...weird. I can't imagine what the guys who write all the history stuff and bios and all that at ST.com are going to do with this. I mean, do they ignore it? Or add on to the TOS characters and Spock's mom these changes?
That stuff is just confusing to me. The movie got stellar ratings from almost every major reviewer and everything, but at what cost? The storyline does impact the history/future of Star Trek, the way I see it.
But I still really liked the movie ;D
& sidenote: I'm pretty sure the actor who played Scotty is the same one who is in the movie Charlie Bartlett (Anton something or other?) which I watched this afternoon. He's really talented!

Whatever happened to the USS Relativity, anyhow? Aren't they supposed to keep these things from happening?

Indeed... I was wondering where Relativity was in Endgame.... Janeway can break the rules too....

Hmm, I never thought of the Relativity to fix it, but I was kinda mad that someone didn't fix it in the end. (The movie, not Endgame.)
